2018 Architecture and Urbanism Forum of Chong Qing International Creative Week

2018 Architecture and Urbanism forum of Chongqing International Creative Week was held on November 17th in Chongqing Huaxi LIVE. With the theme of “Strategies and Actions” and “Chongqing and Metropoles”, the forum analyzes the current situation of urban design planning and explores the opportunities and challenges faced in the process of urban renewal.

“aoe” was fortunate to receive an invite to participate in the Architecture and Urbanism forum of Chongqing International Creative Week. The forum invited 12 world-renowned educators and architects from all over the world to discuss the future of the city and establish a unique urban image to represent Chongqing.

“Understanding and Changing Chongqing by Actions”

In the past two years, aoe worked on 12 architectural design projects in Chongqing. Larry Wen, the founder of aoe, analyzes two representative projects, "Guofu Shafang Lane" and  "Chongqing Sunac One Central Mansion Sales Pavillion", in-depth during this forum.

Larry believes that design must satisfy the utilization of space and elements from traditional architecture while meeting the demand of structural logic of modern commerce, in order to achieve harmony between modern and traditional concepts. Through these projects in Chongqing, Larry and his team have further solidified the future development direction of the team.

The Discussion Session

In the final session, the participants discuss their interpretation of the role and importance of design concepts. Larry believes that since every architect has different inspirations, their interpretation of design concepts would differ as well. Larry believes that concepts can help designers maintain better control throughout the design process. At the same time, he emphasizes the importance of having a vision. aoe’s design vision is to pay close attention to the actions and behaviors inside the architecture. It is possible to have differing concepts, but vision should be consistent.
